Adam Henein

Celebrated for his sculptural work in bronze, wood, clay, and granite, and abstract paintings, Adam Henein is one of the most prominent contemporary artists of the Arab World. Robust references to Egypt’s Pharaonic past are weaved through his work, while his genius as a
modern artist is revealed through the use of solid forms and the simplified lines of his sculptures. Universal themes appear throughout his work, including prayer, enlightenment, motherhood, birds, and boats with references to Egyptian symbols such as pyramids, obelisks, Pharaonic kings, and hieroglyphics. Henein draws on his heritage in abstract paintings, renewing ancient techniques that include painting on papyrus sheets with natural pigments and gum Arabic. His paintings reflect the same poetic simplicity of his sculptures.
